Willows Day Nursery, Basingstoke

The Willows Day Nursery in Basingstoke is situated at 137 Worting Road. The Nursery has been a part of Naturally Curious Childcare since September 2019 and provides quality care, learning and a home from home experience for children aged 0 – 5 years of age.

The Willows Day Nursery follows the Curiosity Approach and is currently undergoing an accreditation. We provide natural and authentic materials within the child’s play to spark imagination, independence and first-hand experiences. We offer amazing learning opportunities to suit the individual child allowing them to flourish and grow.

The Baby Room

Our setting is lucky enough to have the whole ground floor dedicated to the children’s learning. We have a brand-new Baby Room opening in November 2019, which can hold up to 12 babies a day. This is a purpose built area with free flow access to our lovely outside area. With staff ratios of 1:3 it’s a safe and peaceful environment that enables learning opportunities and positive relationships for all.

Children progress at their own pace whilst our dedicated team of practitioners ensure each child receives the best possible care. The team work directly with the parents to ensure that the routines you have at home are mirrored within the setting, providing consistency for your baby. This in turn helps them to settle and become content and confident in the new environment.

In addition we have warm and cosy sleep room when it’s time for a well earned nap we provide all of the bedding and blankets needed for a comfortable sleep. Our bespoke hand made cots mean children can self settle in a safe a peaceful environment.

Our youngest children are provided with plenty of hands on sensory play. This includes a variety of items in treasure baskets to paint and shaving foam play. We are very much a dress for mess nursery. We do have aprons available for children to put on, but we will not stop them during their play to put one on or make a child wear one.

The Early Years Room

The Early Years room holds up to 20 children. There are 3 beautiful rooms for the children to play and explore in, alongside a bathroom and nappy area. The Early years room also have free flow access straight out onto our large and inviting garden area. Your child will enjoy risky play by building with large planks of wood, crates and cable reels, alongside loose parts play with shells, buttons, blocks just to name a few. These open-ended resources really spark children’s imagination and curiosity. Children are always supervised but staff to do not interfere, as we believe children need to make their own risk assessments during their play.

Children are encouraged through independence to control their own learning and have the freedom to self select according to their own current interests.

Practitioners use what they known about the children to plan learning invitations to entice your children covering all areas of learning such as adventurous play promoting physical development, personal, social and emotional development plus the skills to stay safe and manage appropriate risks.

Your child will have lots of access to the outside and the elements - remember dancing in the rain and splashing in puddles as a child yourself? All rooms lead out to our large covered decking area, allowing for outdoor play all year round. Our early years children have continued free flow access to our garden area providing opportunities to promote gross motor development with climbing and building, a variety of constructions using loose parts such as drain pipes, wood, tyres, logs, a giant sandpit and the very popular mud kitchen.

Nature is promoted by planting flowers, herbs and growing vegetables in our vegetable garden seasonally. It's our view that the garden is an extension of the inside area and all if not more learning takes place in the great outdoors.

It's known that children sleep better, eat better and behave better with outdoor play and fresh air. In the warmer months children eat outside and even sleep outside where possible.

At our setting, we provide an all-inclusive structure. This means everything that you need for your child is provided by us – one less thing for you to worry about! We offer Breakfast, AM Snack, Lunch, PM Snack and Tea. Our meals are freshly prepared on sight by a qualified chef. We cater for any special dietary requirements or allergies. As we like to have a home from home experience, our mealtimes are not rushed. Our mealtimes provide an opportunity for discussions between the children on their tables. We also encourage the children to self-serve their meals and drinks to promote independence and gross motor skills.

At The Willows, our practitioners are highly trained professionals, with a vast range of skills and qualifications. Our practitioners enjoy welcoming your child into the Nursery with open arms and big smiles. Each child has a designated key worker who will track your child’s learning and development and whom is your first point of call. We have an open-door policy, which means that we are always here if you would like to speak to us about any queries, at any time of the day.
